History at the Tompson House.

 

The Tompson House built by William Tompson in 1801. William the son of the Rev. John Tompson the first settled minister in Standish.

Standish Historical Society at the Tompson House

The Standish Historical Society has found a place to expand after many years of searching. Over the past many years the Historical Society has been seeking a second location to house exhibits and the extensive archive of records related to Standish and Maine history. This site will enable us to present various exhibits and give an easily accessible space for research into our archives.  The Tompson house is located between two of historic sites the Old Red Church and the Marrett House. Check back more details to come and how people can help make this project a success.

Yard Sale July 14 2018

The Standish Historical Society will be having its annual yard sale on Saturday July 14 2018. 
The sale starts at 9 am. We are looking for donations for the sale. Donations may be dropped off between 1pm and 4pm on Thursday July 12 at the Old Red Church. We will also accept items the morning of the sale.  Please no clothing or electronics.  

Golf Tub Challenge

Saturday at the Field of Dreams Driving Range on route 25 in Standish. This fun event will be held from 11am to 3pm at the Field of Dreams Driving Range on Learning Center. Cost is 5 dollars per bucket of golf balls.  The event is a fundraiser for the Standish Historical Society Museum. 

Standish Days 2018

This weekend is Standish Days 2018.  The Marrett House is open for free tours and the Historical Society will have a table at George E. Jack School. 

Tompson House

    Over the past several years there have been several properties Standish Historical Society has attempted to acquire.  The Old Town Hall in Standish and Luce house, and several other properties  near the Old Red Church. The focus is now on putting together a plan to make the Tompson House the new home for Standish Historical Society. This property would meet current and future needs of the Historical Society. 

Another Home

     

Standish Historical Society has been housed in the second floor of the Old Red Church in Standish for over 40 years. The collection of artifacts and manuscripts have filled the spaces available. There has been an effort over many years to secure a second location in Standish for expansion. The vision is to have a space in which education, research, and preservation needs of the community can be better met. At this time the historical society is undertaking a major fundraising effort to secure funds in order to establish a new home. If you are interested in helping out with this drive there will be a public meeting on Thursday March 15  2018 at 6:30 pm at Standish Town Hall.
